Use of GPS Collars in Alpine Pasture Farming

test

In 2007 a field test with GPS collars together with Pedometers was undertaken (ECKARDT, C. et al., 2006). In a static pre test the acquired location precision was investigated. After that the location precision was tested under given country side circumstances (open land, signal shadowing near hedges and under trees) at a University station with grazing goats and manual data acquisition for evaluation (WONDRAK, M., 2007). During the main investigation period at an Austrian alpine pasture eight youngsters (four female und four male once) where chosen to record GPS and pedometer data in different time periods along the grazing season. Information about the investigation as well as first results coming from different analyses is shown in BRAUNREITER, C. et al., 2008. In a later project study different methodological attempts for wider and deeper data analyses were undertaken (Machl, T., 2011) All original 619,528 GPS data records together with the related weather data are provided for download and further analyses in the attachment. Please feel free to use them for scientific research and additional analyses.
